In November last year, Razer launched its first gaming smartphone, called Razer Phone. Now, the company unveiled the successor of the last year phone, called Razer Phone 2. The latest Razer gaming smartphone comes with an improved design, upgraded specs and some unique features over the last year phone.

Design and Display

Last year Razer phone came with metal penal, now the company upgraded the body quality. The Razer Phone 2 comes with Glass rear panel which offers more premium feels. The glass panel rear panel also enables wireless charging feature on the phone. The phone has an aluminum frame on sides. It featured with IP67 certification which makes the phone dust and waterproof up to 1m for 30 mins. The body dimensions of the Razer gaming smartphone are 58.5 x 79 x 8.5mm and weighs 220 grams. The comes with dual Stereo speakers, on at the top bezel and other at the bottom bezel of the phone. On the front side, the phone comes with glass penal on the screen that protects it from minor scratches.

There is a Razer logo present on the rear panel of the smartphone which featured with Chroma RGB backlit. The user can customize the Chroma RGB backlit over 16.8 million color. It has a different color for individual notifications. It also comes with support effects including, breathing, static color and color spectrum cycling. The Razer phone 2 comes with wireless charging feature and the charging dock also supports Chroma lighting. There is no 3.5 mm audio jack port present in the phone. The Razer Phone 2 has a fingerprint scanner which embedded with the power button. The phone is available only in single color, Black.

The Razer Phone 2 features 5.7-inch IGZO LCD display that supports 1440 x 2560 pixels of resolution and offers a 16:9 aspect ratio. The phone offers around 72.0% screen-to-body ratio and 514 PPI density. The screen of the phone protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 from accidental scratches which comes with oleophobic coating too. The display also supports HDR and DCI-P3 color gamut along with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The company also promised that it will deliver 50% more brightness than the last year Razer gaming phone.

Processor and Memory

The phone powered by Dual Quad-Core CPU under the hood, the first four Kryo 385 Gold cores clocks at 2.8 GHz and the other four Kryo 385 Silver clocks at 1.7 GHz. On the board, the CPU coupled with Qualcomm SDM845 Snapdragon 845 (10 nm) chipset. The phone has 8 GB of RAM. The company announced two internal memory storage, one comes with 64 GB and other has 128 GB internal storage. Both the models have micro SD card on board that supports external storage up to 512 GB for more memory.

It has Adreno 630 Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) on Which allows you to play games with amazing graphics quality. The Razer 2nd Generation gaming smartphone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box. The company promised that it will Android 9 Pie OS update for the phone.

Camera

Razer Phone 2 featured with dual camera sensors setup on the back side along with Dual-LED dual-tone flash, panorama and HDR features. There are dual 12-megapixel camera sensors available on the rear panel. The main 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 camera sensor comes with f/1.7 aperture, dual pixel PDAF and optical image stabilization (OIS) features. The secondary 12-megapixel Sony IMX351 telephoto camera sensor comes with f/2.6 aperture and 2x optical zoom. You can shoot 2160p video at 60fps. On the front side, there is an 8-megapixel camera with a f/2.0 aperture for taking selfies and video calls.

Battery and Other Features

The gaming smartphone packed with the same Non-removable Li-Po 4,000 mAh capacity battery inside the body like its predecessor. The phone also supports fast battery charging 24W (Quick Charge 4+) and Wireless fast charging 15W feature. At the announcement, the company claimed that it can deliver nearly 10 hours of on-screen time when the display refresh rate is set at 120Hz. The Razer used the graphite-based vapor chamber cooling system for controlling the internal temperature of the phone. It made by the server grade materials.

In terms of connectivity, Its a single SIM smartphone with 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, GPS and USB-C. The company claimed that the Razer Phone 2 is the world first smartphone that supports Netflix certified HDR video along with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. The phone comes with dual Dolby Atmos speakers on the front side and of them is equipped with a dedicated amplifier.

Price and Availability

The company launched the Razer Phone 2 Mirror Glass edition at $799 price tag in the U.S market. There is another Satin Glass variant available at $899 that comes with 128 GB internal storage. The phone is already available for pre-order in the U.S. The company also said that it will launch the phone Asia-Pacific and European markets in the near future. The company launched the Wireless Charger for the Razer Phone 2 at $99 price tag.
