Politico reports today that it has learned Apple CEO Tim Cook is expected to testify at a Senate hearing next week related to an investigation into the offshore tax practices of the company: Apple spokesperson Steve Dowling provided Politico with the following statement: The hearing is part of the panel’s continued examination of how companies shift profits offshore and how that impacts the tax code. Representatives from Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard testified in September 2012 in a hearing on the same topic....

Apple’s plans for microLED have been reported before, with some claiming the company is currently in the stages of trial production. Now, a report from Nikkei claims that Apple currently plans to adopt microLED in its wearable products, perhaps as soon as 2018. The report explains that Apple hopes to be ahead of the curve when it comes to microLED production. Currently, the company relies heavily on Samsung for the upcoming iPhone 8 with OLED displays, but that’s a practice it hopes to avoid with future display technology....

Apple has reportedly made another payment to Samsung for selling too few iPhones. According to a new report from Display Supply Chain Consultants, Apple made a one-time payment of $950 million to Samsung for purchasing fewer OLED iPhone displays than required. Samsung noted in its Q2 guidance release that the operating profit for Q2 2020 included a “one-time gain related to its display business,” but it did not include the amount....
