Apple quietly announced this morning that its retail location in Naples, Florida will be closed temporarily for renovations starting September 2nd. Apple is looking to tighten its hold over the supply of parts that manufacturers use for its products, according to a new report from Digitimes citing supply chain sources. Right now, ‘non-key’ components like screws are sourced autonomously by third-party partners with Apple approving supplier lists and quality assurance at the end. The new report says Apple will directly set pricing and order volumes of downstream parts, in a move that gives Apple even more control over how its products are made and will likely squeeze the profitability of supply chain partners....

Reliance today officially revealed the tariffs and commercial launch date of Reliance Jio. The mobile network service has been available in preview offer since the last couple of months to selected devices where Reliance offered free unlimited data, voice calls, and SMS. CompTIA’s latest State of the Tech Workforce Report reveals that over one million tech jobs posted in 2021 offered a work from home (WFH) or hybrid work option – marking a 77% increase in remote-working tech jobs compared to 2019. The data points to a “momentous shift in thinking about work location,” the report said, which has been sparked by pandemic-era remote working and growing acceptance among employers that IT and tech workers can perform much of their job outside of the office....

Back in December, the the USB 3.0 Promoter Group announced that a next-generation of USB connectors was under development. Apple’s recently launched Clips video editing app managed to grab around a million downloads in its first four days on the App Store, that according to a report from TechCrunch using data complied by App Annie and Sensor Tower, two analytics companies that track app rankings. HTC is using a test unit decoy body to hide the true look of its newest phone, according to a report in HTCsource. ile it isn’t obvious from the most recent images, the phone may feature an edge-to-edge glass panel on the front with slits for the BoomSound speakers along the bottom top edges. The front-facing camera will have a large, centrally positioned lens just above the display, much like the HTC Desire 826....

The company found that at least 77 state and municipal governments, 1,043 schools, and 1,203 healthcare providers were impacted by a ransomware incident last year. The attacks also led to 118 data breaches, exposing troves of sensitive information. Emsisoft noted that while the numbers are still high, the 77 local governments attacked represents a decrease compared to 2020 and 2019, both of which saw 113 governments hit. In 2021, ransomware groups targeted smaller counties and towns instead of bigger cities like New Orleans, Baltimore, and Atlanta....
